Astros second basemen Jose Altuve could return for Friday’s series opener against the Athletics.

Altuve has been out since suffering a thumb injury during the World Baseball Classic.

The Astros and manager Dusty Baker have kept their cards close to their chest with the status of Altuve.

It now looks like Altuve will be returning soon with Friday as a possible return date. He’s scheduled to play in his final minor league rehab game on Wednesday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

While Altuve has yet to get in a grove at the plate during his rehab assignment, the Astros are just glad to see him on the field and will expect him to get into a grove quickly.
