Pirates calling up journeyman outfielder

The Pirates are calling up outfielder Josh Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Palacios was picked up by the Pirates in the Rule 5 Draft from the Nationals. Over the last two seasons Palacios has appeared in 42 games between the Nationals and Blue Jays.

Originally a fourth round pick of the Blue Jays in 2016, Palacios appeared in 13 games for the Blue Jays in 2021 before being placed on waivers in April of 2022. The Nationals claimed him last year playing him in 29 games but he became available in the Rule 5 Draft.

This season at Triple-A he has posted a .368/.433/.598 line with four homers and 22 RBI across 21 games. Over the past few years Palacios has put up numbers in the minors but they have not translated to the big league level.

After a hot start the Pirates have struggled of late. A win on Monday night against the Rockies ended a seven game losing streak.
