Dale Jarrett to drive pace car at Darlington

Dale Jarrett, recently named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, will take to the track one more time on May 14.

Jarrett has been named the honorary pace car driver for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway.

The 1999 Cup Series champion was enshrined into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014 after a 24-year career that saw him claim three Dayton 500 and two Brickyard 400 wins.

“I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Darlington Raceway,” said Jarrett, who now works as an NBC broadcaster. “The track is challenging, the fans are passionate and the racing is always fantastic. It was a major achievement to win races there, and I’m grateful to have this opportunity to drive the pace car on this historic day for our sport.”

Darlington has invited everyone from NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers list to the track for activities which run from Friday May 12 though Sunday May 14.

Previously the track announced that Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch would wave the green flag, 20 years after their iconic side-by-side battle at the track produced an unforgettable finish.
