Austin Dillon penalized following Martinsville

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 NASCAR Cup Series team has been penalized following a rules infraction at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR’s report says that the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) team violated the assembled vehicle rules in the car’s underwing assembly and hardware, something that will not help Dillon in the sportsbook when it comes to winning the series championship.

As part of the penalty crew chief Keith Rodden was finished $75,000 and suspended two races. Driver Austin Dillon and the team was penalized 60 driver points and five playoff points.

Dillon finished 12th at Martinsville but will fall to 28th in the point standings following the penalty.

Chris Jackson and David Smith of the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Cup team of driver Anthony Alfredo were also suspended because of a lost wheel during the Martinsville race.

On the Xfinity Series side crew chiefs Mike Bumgarner, Jeff Meendering and Mike Scearce were fined $5,000 each for lug-nut violations.

RCR is planning to appeal the penalty according to a message posted on social media which read “we are disappointed in the penalty that NASCAR issued to Richard Childress Racing following the recent NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, and plan to go through the appeal process.
