Tigers shortstop Javier Baez has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to thumb soreness.
Baez’s stint will be retroactive to April 13 and he will miss his fifth straight game on Sunday against the Royals. The Tigers have decided to go ahead and place him on the injured list ahead of their upcoming series against the Yankees.
The thumb was originally injured on Opening Day and reaggravated a few days later. With x-rays coming back negative the Tigers are hoping a few more days of rest will allow him to recover.
