Braves add veteran pitcher on minor league deal

The Braves have signed veteran pitcher Michael Tonkin to a minor league contract.

Tonkin, 32, has not appeared in the major leagues since a stint with the Twins in 2017. Most recently he split time between the Long Island Ducks of the Independent Atlantic League and Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League.

In parts of five seasons at the major league level Tonkin owns a 3-3 record and a 4.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 2.76 SO/W ratio across 146.1 innings all with the Twins.

This offseason he was playing in the Dominican Winter League where he appeared in 13 games pitching 13.1 innings while posting a 0.68 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP.

Standing 6-foot-7, Tonkin was a 30th round draft pick of the Twins in the 2008 Draft.
