Daniel Hemric’s Darlington scheme to honor John Andretti

JR Motorsports is proud to announce that the scheme of Daniel Hemric’s No. 8 Poppy Bank Chevrolet at Darlington Raceway during throwback weekend will pay tribute to John Andretti and the car he drove during the 1995-96 NASCAR Cup Series seasons. Andretti, a racer in the truest form, was a two-time Cup winner, a Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona Champion and an IndyCar winner and became the first driver to ever attempt and complete the Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 double in 1994.

However, Andretti’s lasting impact comes from what he did off of the track. Diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer in April of 2017, Andretti decided to use his voice and platform to launch the #Checkit4Andretti campaign in an effort to urge people to visit a doctor and get a colonoscopy regardless of their age.

“My goal is to make people aware of the importance of screening through a colonoscopy,” said Andretti during a 2017 statement. “If you are 50 or your family has a history of colon cancer, waiting is not an option. You must be your own health care advocate. If you don’t want to do it for yourself, do it for your family. Early detection is key and had I been screened sooner, my diagnosis would be much better. Bottom line is that colonoscopies save lives. PLEASE DO IT!”

The No. 8 Poppy Bank John Andretti Tribute Chevrolet will take to the track on Saturday, September 5 at Darlington.
