The grandson of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Petty turned some practice laps in an ARCA car on Friday.
Driving the No. 46 Ford for Empire Racing, seventeen year old Thad Moffitt became the latest member of the famed Petty family to drive at Daytona International Speedway.eam.
Moffitt, the oldest son of Brian and Rebecca Petty-Moffitt, will compete in three ARCA races this year. He made his ARCA debut last year with a best finish of 11th at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.

The car during Moffit’s test was a mixture of the famous Petty blue, the familiar STP red though without sponsorship, and black on the hood.
Moffitt will be in the season opening ARCA race at Daytona on Feb. 10 becoming the first member of the Petty family to race at Daytona since Kyle Petty competed in the 2009 Rolex 24.
The youngster will also compete in late model events and the CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour. He was the 2016 Southeast limited late Model Series champion.
