Diamondbacks acquire Brad Boxberger from Rays

The Diamondbacks have acquired right handed relief pitcher Brad Boxberger from the Rays in exchange for Curtis Taylor. Entering his second year of salary arbitration, the Rays found trading Boxberger to be one way to lower team payroll for the 2018 season.

Boxberger, 29, missed three months to start the 2017 season due to lat and forearm issues but pitched fairly well upon rejoining the team. He finished the year with a 3.38 ERA, 1.159 WHIP and a 40/11 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings of work.

The Rays are likely not done making trades. Chris Archer, Alex Colome, Jake Odorizzi, Evan Logoria and Wilson Ramos have all been linked to trade rumors already this winter.  It would not be a surprise to see all of them elsewhere come Opening Day.
