The Yankees and right handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi have avoided arbitration after agreeing on a one-year contract worth $5.6 million on Tuesday.
Eovaldi, 25, had a bizarre 14-3 record last season while the rest of his numbers suggested a pitcher who was very hittable in the first half of the season. After some adjustments Eovaldi lowered his average against from .308 before the All-Star break to just .242 after.
Known for his fastball, Eovaldi produced 121 strikeouts in 154 1/3 innings but allowed a total of 175 hits.
After already agreeing on deals with Didi Gregorius, Dustin Ackley and Michael Pineda the Yankees now must figure out contracts with Ivan Nova and Aroldis Chapman.
