And just like that the Johnny Manziel saga with the Cleveland Browns may be over.
Manziel was diagnosed with a concussion on Wednesday and has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol. With one game left in the season we very well have seen the last of Manziel for the year, and maybe as a member of the Browns.
Last week Manziel ran for 108 yards, the most ever by a Browns quarterback, as he kept them in a game against a playoff bound Chiefs team.
With Manziel out with the concussion the Browns will have to start Austin Davis at quarterback against a Steelers team who desperately needs a win if they are to have any chance of making the playoffs. The Browns have allowed Terrelle Pryor, who was converted to a wide receiver, to see some snaps at practice on Wednesday.
Manziel had the best game of his young NFL career against the Steelers earlier this season as he threw for 372 yards.
Browns coach Mike Pettine says the team does not plan to discipline Manziel for a recent video of him partying at home with alcohol.
“At some point this week when he is back in the building, I’ll get a chance to talk to him about it,” Pettine said.
“I know he was at home. He was at home on his day off. But as far as the judgment of it getting out there, I question that,” Pettine said. “But other than that, this is not similar to the circumstances that (led to his demotion). Going back to there, that was more trust and accountability than it was necessarily the act.”
