Yankees have checked in on Troy Tulowitzki

The Mets continue to quietly talk with the Rockies about the possibility of acquiring shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. They are not alone. Could Tulowitzki play in New York but not for the Mets? Could he play for the Yankees?

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman the Yankees have checked in with the Rockies about Tulowitzki.

The Yankees traded for Didi Gregorius earlier this offseason but what he brings to the table is merely defense. It looks like general manager Brian Cashamn is still trying to find someone to replace the now retired Derek Jeter with the bat.

While the idea of Tulowitzki taking over for a player he grew up idolizing is fascinating the Yankees do not have much in the form of prospects to send back to the Rockies.

The Monfort brothers are big fans of Tulowitzki so expecting a trade to happen is far from certain. If the 30-year-old shortstop is moved the deal will have to be simply too good to pass up. Tulowitzki has six years and $118 million left on his contract.
