DeMarco Murray suffered a break in his left hand in Sunday night’s win over the Eagles. Murray underwent surgery on his left hand on Monday night and doctors say he can do no additional damage to it by playing.
The NFL’s leading rusher is now questionable to play in Sunday’s Week 16 game at home against the Colts.
Team owner Jerry Jones believes that Murray is a game-time decision for that contest.
“I think we just want to take a look at it. We don’t know,” Jones said in an interview with 105.3 The Fan. “I’m not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday.”
Murray’s 1,687 yards lead the NFL. He is just under 100 yards shy of breaking Emmitt Smith’s single season franchise record of 1,773 yards rushing set in 1995.
“I don’t think we’d have to see him practice. I think it’s more a question of the condition of the hand at game time and what we can do to protect it,” Jones said. “I think it’s one of those that you’d want to wait and see just how he’s feeling before the game.”
Despite winning against the Eagles and taking over the NFC East the Cowboys are finding themselves in a must win situation. With a loss to the Colts and an Eagles win over the Redskins the Cowboys would fall back out of the top spot in the division as the Eagles hold the tie breaker.
If Murray cannot go on Sunday the Cowboys will give the ball to Joseph Randle who has handled himself well in relief this season.
