Giancarlo Stanton on Marlins: “Five months, doesn’t change five years”

Giancarlo Stanton has predictably been a driving force in the success of the Miami Marlins this season.

The All-Star slugger boasts a .299/.407/.566 line with 33 home runs and 97 RBI though 130 games played this season but those thinking that the suddenly competitive Marlins have a better chance to re-sign Stanton need to think twice.

“Five months,” Stanton said, via Yahoo Sports, “doesn’t change five years.”

“The way I felt last year, with the whole situation of losing and not playing my best, that was one of the worst feelings I ever had,” he explained. “I put it as a waste of time. I spent all that time in the offseason. To lose 100 games and to not do my best? It was like, ‘What’d I do all that in the offseason for?’”

Entering Tuesday the Marlins are right at .500 on the year but are just 3 games out in the Wild Card race. With six contests against Atlanta in their next ten games they will know a-lot about their future in a short amount of time.

“We’ve definitely done better than anyone thought we would do,” Stanton said. “At the same time, we’re still not where we need to be to keep playing beyond the designed schedule. … I want to be the only game on TV at the end of the day.”
