The Atlanta Braves had been scouting left handed options for their bullpen after losing Jonny Venters and Eric O’Flaherty earlier in the year.
On Monday the Braves acquired left handed reliever Scott Downs from the Los Angeles Angels.
Downs, 37, has been one of baseball’s best relievers since moving to the bellpen full-time in 2007. This season Downs has a 1.84 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in 43 games.
In order to get Downs the Braves gave up right handed pitcher Cory Rasmus, younger brother of Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus.
