Donovan McNabb on Stafford: What has he really done?

Matthew Stafford signed a contract extension with the Detroit Lions worth $76.5 million over the next five years, including $41.5 million guaranteed.

While Stafford is not the highest paid quarterback in the NFL it is a hefty commitment by the Lions in the former first overall pick.

Of course not everyone is impressed with the deal. Donovan McNabb questioned the deal on Tuesday while appearing on NFL Total Access.

“When you look at just the numbers overall, you have to think about 12,000 yards and being the youngest quarterback to reach this feat and also the things he’s been able to accomplish, you know you begin to question this…. Is he worth top 5 money? I would have to say no. And I say that because it’s about wins and losses….. What has he really done for the Detroit Lions? Nothing.”

As if McNabb did not list enough reasons for the deal here are a few provided by USA’s For The Win.

1. Become the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a single season.

2. Throw 80 touchdowns, and just 54 interceptions.

3. Record the highest single-season passer rating of any QB in Lions history (97.4 in 2011).

4. Excluding Drew Brees and Tom Brady, throw for more yards than any QB in the NFL over the past two seasons.

5. Win the 2011 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award and end a 12-year Lions playoff drought.

6. As a No. 1 overall draft pick (in 2009), manage to not become JaMarcus Russell.

Feel free to discuss as Donovan is still waiting for that 2008 game against the Bengals to head to the second overtime.

Harsh? So was McNabb’s time with the Redskins and Vikings.
