The Los Angeles Dodgers activated starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw from the bereavement list in time for the left hander to make his Friday start. The Dodgers also placed Ted Lilly on the disabled list with a rib cage injury.
Kershaw has a 1.73 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 47/12 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings over his first six starts this season. He left the team on Monday but was never in danger of missing his scheduled Friday start.
The Dodgers placed Lilly on the disabled list after he had not shown enough improvement following a cortisone shot earlier this week. Lilly first began to feel discomfort in his right rib cage during his start on Monday. Lilly allowed four runs in three innings against Colorado in Monday’s loss.
Matt Magill will take Lilly’s turn in the rotation against the Giants. Magill went 6 2/3 innings in his only apperance of the season last Saturday against Milwaukee. In that outing Magill allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.
