Nur Ali not approved by NASCAR to race at Texas

NASCAR informed Nur Ali that he would not be racing at this weekends Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Ali, the first driver of Pakistani descent, made his NASCAR debut Oct. 20 at Kansas.

During Ali’s first race weekend he was involved in a spin in practice and later crashed out of event at Kansas Speedway finishing 33rd.

Ali, a resident of Fort Worth, had hoped to drive for Rick Ware Racing at his home track but NASCAR wants him to gain more experience at smaller, slower tracks before racing at the 1.5 mile Texas.

Ali will race at Phoenix next week.

Ali was the driver for Team Pakistan in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport during the 2006-2007 season. He also spent eight seasons competing in the Star Mazda Series, scoring two championships.
