Felix Jones will start against Giants despite missing practice

With DeMarco Murray week-to-week the Dallas Cowboys will start Felix Jones at running back on Sunday against the New York Giants. Jones has been dealing with a knee injury and is listed questionable on the injury report. Despite the knee concerns the Cowboys expect Jones to be ready to go on Sunday and to take as many as 20 carries.

The team held Jones out of practice on Wednesday for precautionary reasons. On the season he has 149 yards rushing but managed just 2.9 yards a run on 15 carries against the Carolina Panthers last week.

The Giants are allowing 126.4 yards per game on the ground making the presence of a ground game important for the Cowboys chances of winning. In the Cowboys victory in Week 1 they totaled 143 yards on the ground.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo also threw for three touchdowns and 307 yards in Week 1. Kevin Ogletree caught 8 passes for 117 yards of those yards and two touchdowns.

While Murray will not play this week owner Jerry Jones does not believe that Murray’s foot injury is a long-term situation. Jones expects to have Murray “back in the foreseeable future.”

Murray and Jones together combined to form a rushing attack that was averaging just 97.6 yards per game, ranking 20th in the NFL.
