Nur Ali will become the first Pakistani driver to compete in a NASCAR this weekend when he competes in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Kansas Speedway. While Ali has run a few races at the ARCA level and has been in races on multiple continents the transition to NASCAR creates quite a learning curve for the 38-year-old.
In Friday’s Nationwide practice Ali was involved in an incident with the No. 40 car of Erik Darnell.
I can gather a few things from the interview.
1. Ali wanted to get off the track
2. He was waving.
3. Ali does not believe the incident is his fault.
4. It is Ali’s belief that Darnell has more experience then him and therefore it is his responsibility to understand what the newcomer was planning to do.
5. Dr. Jerry Punch probably would likely have preferred to be interviewing Kurt Busch.
According to the telecast of the practice multiple Nationwide drivers have already spoken to Ali about the incident including teammate Timmy Hill.
