In the 12th inning of the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles Game 4 ALDS game, Joba Chamberlain was hit by a broken bat. Although Chamberlain left the game, x-rays came back negative in what is being called a “contusion”
It looked awfully painful.
The bat belonged to Matt Wieters who shattered his bat when he singled during the top of the 12th inning. A large piece went toward the mound and hit Chamberlain’s surgically repaired pitching elbow.

The Orioles went on to score during the top of the 13th inning. In the bottom of the 13th they brought in closer Jim Johnson to shut the game down. Johnson was able to hold the Yankees from scoring and the Orioles ended up winning 2-1 to force a Game 5. You can read about the whole game here.
