NASCAR Nationwide Series will not race at Montreal in 2013

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will not return to the Circuit Gilles Villeneueve road course in Montreal next season, ending a six-year run for the event.

Promoter Francois Dumontier announced Friday the end of the agreement, which had been operated on a year-to-year basis.

NASCAR said it wanted to return to Montreal, but could not work out a sanctioning agreement with Dumontier’s promotion group.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is hoping to run an event in Canada next season. Mosport International Raceway in Toronto is believed to be the preferred location.

The Nationwide Series is planning to run 33 events next season. A new market may be added to replace the event in Montreal. Justin Allgaier won the Nationwide Series race in Montreal this year.
