Baltimore Orioles clinch first playoff spot in fifteen years

The Baltimore Orioles have clinched a playoff spot for the first time in fifteen years. Their last playoff appearance was in 1997. This has been a long time coming for Orioles fans, but nothing can describe how proud of their team they are right now.

The Orioles clinched their spot in the postseason with a win against the Boston Red Sox, and a Los Angeles Angels loss to the Texas Rangers. Fans were hoping to celebrate with the Orioles after their win, but the announcement had to wait till tonight after the Angels came back to beat the Rangers in the first game of their doubleheader.

Joe Saunders started today’s game going up against Red Sox pitcher Zach Stewart. Saunders went 7.1 innings, giving up 3 earned runs before he was relieved by Darren O’Day. It is Saunders ninth win.

Nate McLouth, J.J Hardy and Chris Davis all hit home runs in the game. Jim Thome had two RBI’s.

The Oriole’s won with a score of 6-3.
