Faced with blistering speeds, and well… blistering tires, NASCAR and Good Year have changed the left side tire to be run in Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

A practice at 6:00 pm has also been added to the schedule.

Jeff Gordon was one of the first drivers to break the news on twitter:

Just heard from @NASCAR there will b a left side tire change for the race on Sunday. No change for qual. 6pm pract on new tire tomorrow.

This of course is a cause for concern. Additional practice time prior to a race creates more chances for something to go wrong as crew chief Slugger Labbe noted.

Worried about added practice engine miles as well, almost 2 limit already #always nervous

Yes. Sending 2 ls tires. 4020 and 4390. Pulling data now. Old tires x 5 years old

The session will last from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm. A total of 14 teams had complained of blisters on the tires supplied for Sunday’s race.
