Pastrana making Nationwide debut at Richmond

The long awaited debut of Travis Pastrana in NASCAR is set to happen during next weekends Nationwide race at Richmond. Pastrana will get behind the wheel of the #99 Toyota which was formed out of an alliance between RAB Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing.

Pastrana was set to make his Nationwide debut last season in July but suffered an injury at the ESPN X-Games. After the injury plans for him to drive in the Nationwide Series were pushed back until 2012. Waltrip later stopped fielding cars in the Nationwide Series.

While RAB was looking for sponsorship dollars to keep their team going, Waltrip was out looking for a way to get Pastrana guaranteed a starting spot. The result was a match as the #09 Toyota which had been driven by Kenny Wallace will be driven by MWR drivers whenever possible.

“Whenever we have an opportunity to go Nationwide racing with any of our drivers, it will be in the #99 at RAB Racing,”

Early plans were for Pastrana to run seven Nationwide races this season.
