Andy Lally still wants to drive NASCAR

Last season Andy Lally captured the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie of the year award mainly though lack of competition. The Grand Am driver drove for the lesser TRG in the #71 car and was never really competitive.

Lally said in a recent interview that he still would like to run the road course races on the NASCAR schedule and that he had a few nibbles on potential rides.

“I have a few nibbles here and there. I would love to find a good Cup team to do Watkins Glen with and a good Nationwide team to do the three road courses with. I think I can bring a lot to teams on the road courses and have a very good shot to run up front.”

In the past teams running for owner points, looking to improve or earn a top-35 position, have employed road ringers such as Lally to run the road course races. Last year Lally finished 35th at Sonoma and 21st at Watkins Glen. His best finish last season was a 19th place run at Talladega.

In the first Grand Am GT race of the year Lally and Magnus Racing won the 24 Hours of Daytona.
