Fans of, three time Indy Car champion, Sam Hornish will be happy to hear that the 32 year-old will drive the entire NASCAR Nationwide schedule in the #12 Dodge of Penske Racing. Hornish drove the car on a limited basis last season after losing his Sprint Cup ride with the team.
Roger Penske has said that he is still committed to fielding cars for Hornish in NASCAR and hopes to have a seat for him at the Sprint Cup level in 2013. Penske currently has drivers Brad Keselowski and A.J. Allmendinger locked up to multi-year deals. Sam ran in 108 Sprint Cup races in Penske cars from 2007-2010 scoring 2 top-5’s and 10 top-10’s.
Alliance truck parts who plays a large role in Penske’s truck business will sponsor Hornish’s car for 26 Nationwide races. The remaining 6 races will be sponosred by the Wurth Group, a German-based automotive and industrial supply company.
Last season Hornish competed in 13 Nationwide races and looked competitive. He eventually found victory lane for his first win at Phoenix.
I for one as glad Sam will be runnng the full season. I have liked him from the first time i watched him in a cup car. He is probably one of the nicest guy in nascar and a very good driver. I think he has just never had the right car/crew chief combination. Maybe this season will be a great one for him. Go Sam.
