Chien-Ming Wang expected to sign this week

Bill LaNew York Yankees vs New York Mets at Citi Field in New Yorkdson seems to believe that Chien-Ming Wang is giong to sign by the end of the week. It would be welcomed news to fans of the Nationals who had heard last week that the two sides had agreed on a deal worth $2 million before Wang’s agent dismissed the story.

Wang has twice been a 19 game winner (2006, 2007) but made just 12 appearances in 2009 with the Yankees finishing 1-6 with a 9.64 ERA. He underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery in late July and isn’t expected back until late in the first half.

The reason for the denial that Wang would sign with the Nationals likely had something to do with the Los Angeles Dodgers who were interested in Wang until late last week. Any deal with Wang likely is to be incentive-laden but the $2 million amount reported last week will likely be what he gets with Washington.

In his career Wang has a 55-26 record and a 4.16 ERA in 109 appearances, including 104 starts of which all occurred with the New York Yankees.

  1. Chien Ming Wang is a Taiwanese pitcher with great talents and good character. Hopefully he will have a successful season and career and put the negative injuries and ONE bad season behind him.

The Yankees training staff and management really rushed him back before properly evaluating his overall health. CMW is better adjusted now that he had sufficient time to rehab and his family life is calmer now that his son was born perfectly healthy.

It was just too much all at once last season, but this season CMW will have a productive showing. He will also have a great career proving most critics wrong.
