The New York Giants have released veteran backup quarterback David Carr.

Carr, 34, was the first overall pick of the Houston Texans in the 2002 Draft and was in his second stint with the Giants. He will now have to scramble to find work and may open the season as a free agent.

The writing was on the wall for Carr when the Giants signed Curtis Painter and drafted Ryan Nassib in the 2013 NFL Draft.
