Eagles bring back Matthews, put Wallace on IR

The Eagles reached into their past a bit Wednesday morning in bringing back 2014 second round pick Jordan Matthews.

Matthews, 26, spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Eagles but saw injuries and a trade to the Bills take a toll on his career. His signing replaces Mike Williams who went down with a broken leg on Sunday.

The Eagles are expected to use Matthews out of the slot right away. Josh Perkins was forced to take snaps there last week.

In Matthews the Eagles are getting a player who caught 67, 85 and 73 over his previous three seasons with the club while also topping 800 yards. Last season in 10 games he finished with 25 catches and 282 yards for the Bills.

Alson Jeffery could also be headed back into the fold for the Eagles as he could return from his shoulder injury.

Williams could return later this season but nothing is certain for the now 32 year old. He did not catch a pass in either of the Eagles first two games.
