Blake Bortles named Jaguars starter for Week 1

Blake Bortles has been named the Week 1 starter for the Jaguars by head coach Doug Marrone. The same Blake Bortles was demoted prior to the Jaguars third preseason game.

The Jaguars know what they have in Chad Henne who looked every bit of why he was an NFL backup this preseason and are simply hoping they can find anything in the former number three pick Bortles. Bortles led the Jaguars to two touchdown drives when he entered Thursday’s game. Bortles completed 12 of 16 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Henne completed eight of 14 passes for 73 yards and no touchdowns with no interceptions.

Expected to break out in 2016, Bortles disappointed fans and critics due to his inaccuracy and slow release. The Jaguars are unlikely to get above .500 regardless of who is playing quarterback this season and if Bortles is unable to put together anything this season it’s almost a guarantee they will address the position in next years draft, though some thought that may happen this past year.
