Chiefs may rest starters in Week 17 depending on game flow

The Chiefs are still able to win the AFC West while a loss could drop them to the No. 6 seed.

With a win and a Broncos loss needed to win the AFC West the Chiefs could opt to rest some of their starters in Week 17.

As it stands the Chiefs are the No. 5 seed but a win over the Raiders and a win by the Chargers over the Broncos could move them up to the No. 3 seed by virtue of winning the AFC West. The difference is hosting a Wild Card round game or playing on the road.

The Chiefs will be keeping an eye on the scoreboard for their game and the Broncos tilt. Should either game get out of hand the coaching staff figures to pull their starters according to ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher. Of course the decision by the Chiefs should not be a surprise as few teams would want to risk key players in that situation. The Chiefs could also fall to the No. 6 seed with a loss which would mean a trip to play the Bengals instead of a road game against the Texans.

Sunday’s worse case scenario for the Chiefs would be a Broncos win and a close game against the Raiders – either win or loss – which forces them to play starters throughout the game.
