Dolphins looking to extend coach Joe Philbin

Joe Philbin was considered to have one foot out the door in the closing weeks of the NFL regular season but according to the Miami Herald the Dolphins will soon approach him about a contract extension.

The belief to outsiders is that the Dolphins have underachieved the past three seasons under Philbin and it is hard to argue otherwise. Philbin is just 23-25 as the Dolphins head coach. During that time the Dolphins have never finished better than 8-8 or reached the playoffs.

If Philbin gets extended beyond the 2015 season the Dolphins would best be served to find a better defensive mind.

Take an extension at face value. The Dolphins will want to shield themselves from the idea that Philbin is heading into a lame duck season while also protecting themselves should the team perform well next season.
