The 49ers are looking for a new head coach and the early list of names is pretty impressive.

On Tuesday general manager Trent Baalke spoke with two-time Super Bowl winning coach Mike Shanahan reports CSN Bay Area. It is unclear whether or not the 49ers are interested in the elder Shanahan but they are said to have his son Kyle on their radar as well.

The Shanahan’s last worked together in Washington. In four seasons with the Redskins Mike Shanahan compiled a 24-40 record as their head coach but the success in Robert Griffin’s rookie season surely has the 49ers attention.

Earlier this week it was reported that Shanahan had interest in the head coaching position with the Bears. There he would replace an ousted Marc Trestman and be reunited with quarterback Jay Cutler.

Former Jets coach Rex Ryan is also on the 49ers list. Ryan led the Jets to the AFC Championship game in each of his first two seasons before falling to 4-12 this season. He is said to be seeking a head coaching job and may end up with ESPN if he cannot land one. Ryan was 46-50 during his time with the Jets.

If the 49ers want to keep the current group of coaches and players together – minus Harbaugh – their best option may be defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. He has already interviewed for the job but it is unclear if that was simply as a courtesy or not.
