Mike Smith was fired by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday following seven seasons as the teams head coach.
Smith was 66-46 during his tenure with the Falcons earning 2008 NFL Coach of the Year honors but those works never translated to the playoffs as the Falcons were just 1-4 there.
In recent seasons the Falcons had struggled to a 10-22 mark highlighted by a blowout loss on Sunday to the Carolina Panthers that prevented them from going to the playoffs this season.
Smith, a defensive minded coach, sat on the sidelines as his defense was the worst in the NFL this season and 27th a year ago.
The Falcons, Bears, Jets, 49ers have all made the decision to look for new head coaches this offseason.
