Ryan Mathews ruled out against 49ers

The Chargers will play Saturday’s game against the 49ers without running back Ryan Mathews.

Mathews has been ruled out for the Week 16 contest leaving Branden Oliver and Donald Brown to share carries in the backfield of the Chargers.

Bothered by an ankle injury Mathews has not played since Dec. 7 and is far from certain to play in Week 17.

The bolts are expecting tight end Ladarius Green to return to the field. Green has been dealing with a concussion and an anle injury. The outlook for Green in fantasy circles will be increased with the absence of Keenan Allen. Like Mathews, Green has not played since Week 14. He has just 19 receptions for 226 yards in the 12 games he has played.

Meanwhile the Chargers opponents for Saturday’s game have also ruled players out. Both wide receiver Stevie Johnson and running back Carlos Hyde will miss this contest.
