Panthers waive running back Chris Ogbonnaya

The crowded backfield of the Carolina Panthers got thinned out a bit on Saturday when the team waived running back Chris Ogbonnaya.

A decision to waive Ogbonnaya is not that much of a surprise given that the Panthers currently have DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Fozzy Whittaker on their roster.

With Ogbonnaya’s departure from the roster the Panthers have promoted defensive tackle Micanor Regis from their practice squad.

Ogbonnaya’s tenure with the Panthers ends with 14 carries for 50 yards spread across five games. He has not played since Oct. 30.

Someone could take a chance on the former Cleveland back who ran 48 times for 239 yards (5.0 avg) a year ago.
