Jason Brown spent seven seasons in the NFL before retiring in 2011 and purchasing a 1,000 acre farm.

Brown and his wife Tay had planned to have a home birth with some assistance but things did not go quite as planned. Lunsford Bernard Brown III came a little earlier than anticipated.

“It was an incredible experience,” said Brown via the Charlotte News Observer. “It was unbelievable.”

The baby was named in honor of Brown’s older brother who was killed military action in Afghanistan. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces. He is the fourth child for Jason and Tay.

“Delivering Tre was a surprise,” Brown said. “My wife and I were one praying couple.”

Since retiring Brown has used his farm to grow fruits and vegetables for the Society of St. Andrew, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. He has donated 10,000 pounds of cucumbers and 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes.
