Jets could turn back to Geno Smith next week

The New York Jets are having Michael Vick start today’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

At 1-7 the Jets have twice pulled Smith from games inserting Vick in his place. After playing downright awful in his first bit of action this year, Vick provided a small offensive spark a week ago but struggled with turnovers – the same problem that has plagued Smith.

The Jets are well out of the playoff picture and head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik could be fired at the end of the season but the team is still trying to figure out if Smith can be a quarterback in the NFL.

Smith’s results over the final few weeks of the season will determine the direction the Jets go in their quarterback search. All signs point to a new name and number under center next season.
