Alex Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a strained throwing shoulder in Sunday’s win over the St. Louis Rams.

Despite the injury, Smith is expected to be fine in time to start in the Chiefs Week 9 contest against the New York Jets.

Smith could be limited in practice this week but right now there is nothing to suggest he is in any real danger of missing Sunday’s game.

In seven games this season Smith has completed 66.8-percent of his passes for 1,496 yrds and nine touchdowns. He has thrown four interceptions.

Should Smith be unable to play, Chase Daniel is listed as the backup quarterback. Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is the third-string option for the Chiefs.
