Redskins coach admits team had to find ways to get Pierre Garcon the ball

A year ago Pierre Garcon led the NFL with 113 catches totaling 1,346 yards. While those numbers were expected to drop in 2014 few could have envisioned that though six games Garcon would have just 30 catches for 309 yards and two touchdowns.

Ten of Garcon’s 30 catches came in the season opener leaving him just with just 20 over his last five games leaving some to label him as a missing man.

“It’s football. You know how it is, man,” Garcon said of his decreased statistics via the Washington Post. “You never know when your number’s going to be called. You just have to be ready.”

Coach Jay Gruden admitted that the Redskins have been having trouble getting Garcon the ball.

“He’s had a couple of games where he’s had multiple catches, like you said. Then he’s had a couple games where he’s had two or three catches, which seems a little bit odd,” Gruden said. “But sometimes this coverage predicates it. Sometimes he’s a feature guy and Kirk doesn’t see him, or he gets pressured or what have you. . . . But we do have to make sure we get him more touches early in games.”
