Alex Henery joined the Detroit Lions in mid-September but his stay on the team may be nearing its end.
In Sunday’s Week 5 loss to the Buffalo Bills the kicker missed three field goals. Coupled with a miss in his first game with the team and he is just 1-for-5 on the season.
Henery earned his release from Philadelphia for missing kicks in the clutch and things have not changed. The 27-year-old took the blame for the loss and hinted at problems with the Lions kicking game. It quite possibly could be that the Lions see him as the biggest problem and release him.
If Henery is let go the most obvious option available is Matt Prater who was cut by Denver prior to Week 5. Prater’s four game suspension is up and he has been one of the NFL’s best kickers in recent seasons.
