With one year left on his rookie contract guaranteeing him $1.76 million, Christian Ponder has made the 53-man roster of the Minnesota Vikings to start the season.

The Vikings have soured on Ponder shuffling him to the bench last season while then re-signing Matt Cassel and drafting Teddy Bridgewater at the end of the first round.

Ponder has not been given many chances to work with the first team offense and ideally the Vikings will try to move him before the season starts.

In 36 career games over three seasons Ponder has comleted 60.2-percent of his passes for 6,436 yards while tossing 38 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

Kyle Orton earning $5 million this season

How badly did the Buffalo Bills want to improve their depth at quarterback? Enough to spend $5 million while bringing 31-year-old journeyman Kyle Orton out of retirement.

Orton will earn as much as Josh McCown landed from Tampa Bay. This should be seen as a sign that the Bills trust in E.J. Manuel has run out. Manuel will start the season for the Bills but the team could quickly make a switch.
