Matt Cassel to start regular season for Vikings

One of the worst kept secrets around football will soon be announced by Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. Matt Cassel will be named the starting quarterback for the Vikings ahead of first round pick Teddy Bridgewater.

Cassel had long been expected to start for the Vikings even as Bridgewater did his best during his preseason appearances.

Starting all three preseason games Cassel was 26-of-39 (66.6 percent) for 367 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Bridgewater was 26-of-40 for 266 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Sooner or later the Vikings will turn to Bridgewater as their starter.

The Vikings open the season with games against St. Louis, New England, New Orleans, Atlanta and Green Bay.
