Drew Brees to play first half against Colts on Saturday

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to play the entire first half of Saturday’s preseason game against Indianapolis.

Brees rested his strained oblique but the injury was never a concern. He will return to the Saints for their third preseason game getting in a half of work which has been typical for first team players.

“I thought he looked pretty sharp tonight. There were a handful of throws that were exceptional,” said Saints coach Sean Payton, via ESPN. “I think we’ve handled it the right way, and he is pretty smart and he knew where he was at. My only concern was [whether] we had set our mind on a game maybe, and that really shouldn’t dictate his healing.

“Now, it happened to be that he feels ready to go. I’m sure he’s going to play, and we’ll figure out how many snaps in this game. But he looked pretty sharp tonight.”

There is nothing to suggest that Brees is slowing down. He will set his sights on a fourth straight 5,000 yard passing season.

Last year Brees totaled 5,162 yards and 39 touchdowns while tossing 12 interceptions and completiting 68.6-percent of his passes.
