Leading up to day one of the NFL Draft on Thursday there were reports that the New England Patriots were willing to trade quarterback Ryan Mallett. The Houston Texans were reported to be the team set to acquire the quarterback.

While the Texans still need a quarterback those trade talks have fizzled out and while appearing on SportsCenter Friday Morning, Ed Werder said that he had been told that Ryan Mallett was “not available” for trade.

These things can chance in an instant. Should the Patriots find a replacement for Mallett they surely would be willing to unload him. The Texan would appear to be the most likely landing spot should Mallett become available thanks to new coach Bill O’Brien’s previously experience with the quarterback.

The Texans have the first pick of the second round at No. 33.
