The San Francisco 49ers have approached wide receiver Michael Crabtree about a new contract. Crabtree, much like head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, is one of many members of the 49ers in need of a new contract.

“We’re constantly working with our guys that are becoming free agents to see what it’s going to take to extend them,” general manager Trent Baalke said via SF Gate. “Michael’s no different. He’s a darn good football player. A guy that we drafted. And as everyone in this room knows, we are always going to try to keep our own guys rather than go out in free agency and pay guys that haven’t invested themselves in this place like these guys have.”

The 49ers and Crabtree may want to work out a deal but the wide receiver is just 11 months away from surgery for a torn achilles. He may want to see what he can do in the 2014 season before re-signing.

During five regular season games last season Crabtree caught 19 passes for 284 yarsd and a touchdown.
