The Kansas City Chiefs went from awful to playoffs in one season thanks to the additions of a new head coach in Andy Reid and a new quarterback in Alex Smith. Naturally the Chiefs want to keep Smith around for the future but that will require a new deal.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio talks between Smith and the Chiefs are moving “very, very slowly.”
A new deal for Smith is expected to fall in the $14 to $17 million range and while Smith has been in the NFL for almost a decade he will not turn 30 until May.
Once Smith appeared destined to be on a list of first round busts but lately the quarterback has been breaking out. Soon it will be the Chiefs who break out the checkbook.
