Mike Sherman has been fired as the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.
Sherman took over the offensive reigns for the Dolphins in 2012 after being fired from Texas A&M following the 2011 season.
That Sherman coached Ryan Tannehill at Texas A&M played a large factor in the teams decision to spend a first round pick on the quarterback.
“I would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins,” coach Joe Philbin said. “Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979. He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession. On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future.”
Sherman was widely expected to be fired after the Dolphins finished 8-8 and failed to miss the playoffs. That the Dolphins scored just seven points in Week 16 and 17 contests against Buffalo and New York sealed his fate.
