The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran wide receiver Deion Branch to a contract prior to their second round playoff game against the New England Patriots.
Ok, I was kind calling Branch a veteran in the opening sentence. Branch, 34, has not played since 2012 when he caught 16 passes for 145 yards in 10 games with the Patriots. He did not appear on a NFL roster at any point during the 2013 season.
In early December the Colts worked out Branch but did not sign him. This move is about trying to figure out the Patriots offense as much as it is about depth at receiver.
The Colts also promoted wide receiver Josh Lenz to the active roster and placeddefensive end Fili Moala and cornerback Greg Toler on injured reserve.
